Watch: Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lights up in tricolour to honour 79th Indian Independence Day

Dubai: In a literally towering tribute to India’s 79th Independence Day, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lit up in the vibrant hues of the Indian tricolour on Friday night.

The world’s tallest building illuminated the night sky with saffron, white, and green, symbolising the UAE’s warm gesture of friendship and respect for India and the vibrant Indian expat community.

The stunning light show drew huge crowds, mostly patriotic Indian expats, celebrating and saluting their motherland. Cheering spectators clapped, whistled, and shouted slogans hailing India.

Some of the spectators, such as X user Rajesh, quickly shared the video along with their Happy Independence Day messages on social media and celebrating the strong ties between the UAE and India.

Sharing a version of the video featuring the instrumental rendition of the Indian national anthem, the Indian Consulate in Dubai posted on social media: "The Tricolor stands tall on the world's most iconic landmark, the Burj Khalifa, celebrating India's 79th #IndependenceDay. It is a moment of pride for the vibrant Indian community in the United Arab Emirates."

The annual display marking India's Independence Day on Burj Khalifa was followed by various events held by the Indian missions, community groups and companies in the UAE.

Official flag hoisting ceremonies at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai saw Indian expats of all ages participating with pride and patriotism. Colourful performances showcasing India's rich cultural heritage were also held.
