Sharjah: Sharjah Police have announced a series of measures to ease congestion around schools and strengthen safety protocols as students return for the 2025–26 academic year, launching the “Our First Lesson is Safety” campaign in coordination with traffic, operations, security media, and community protection units.
According to Colonel Mohammed Al Shamsi, Director of the Operations Centre, a mobile operations room will be introduced to provide live broadcasts of road conditions near schools during peak hours, enabling quicker responses to congestion.
He added that the system will integrate with the Ma’man platform, run in cooperation with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which manages student emergency calls and tracks school buses from morning pick-up to drop-off.
The campaign will also focus on public awareness. Colonel Abdulrahman Khater, Deputy Director of Security Media, said content tailored for students of all ages will be rolled out across traditional and digital platforms, using videos, interactive ads, and simple messaging to reinforce safe behaviour in and around schools.
On the ground, 98 traffic patrols will be deployed across the emirate — 51 in Sharjah City, 25 in the Eastern Region, and 22 in the Central Region — targeting key intersections and high-traffic zones.
Lieutenant Colonel Omar Al Aqroubi, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrols, urged school bus drivers to strictly follow safety protocols, including thorough post-trip inspections to ensure no child is left on board.
In addition, Major Hussain Al Baloushi, Head of Community Patrols, said teams will visit schools to engage students, teachers, and staff in promoting a safety-first culture, encouraging them to report unsafe behaviour and cooperate in creating secure learning environments.
Sharjah Police concluded by urging the community to play an active role in ensuring student safety and helping to deliver a smooth start to the school year.
