Dubai Municipality has approved the final architectural designs for Zayed University, which will be constructed at the proposed University City in Al Ruwiya Area on the Dubai - Al Ain Road.

This was revealed by Eng. Abdul Rahman Al Sharid, Director of the General Projects Department at Dubai Municipality, who noted that the final design was chosen through a contest among 11 international consultants who were specialised in designing educational establishments and colleges.

"We have inspected all the submitted designs in detail and chosen the best one. The university is set to open in September 2005. The new buildings will accommodate the existing number of students as well as the estimated increase in future," he said.

Work on the new buildings will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase accommodating 5,000 female students, the second phase accommodating 7,000 female students, and the third phase 10,000 students.

Facilities will be set up for 5,000 male students as well, said Al Sharid.

"The first phase constructions will cater for all needs for establishments for the female students until the year 2010," he said.

The design is unique in the sense that the students can move around inside the campus without being subjected to the hot and humid weather conditions.
