Yemeni authorities have detained a Saudi citizen wanted for security issues by Saudi Arabia, officials said here yesterday.
The detained Saudi citizen killed his companion who was also wanted by the authorities, the state-run 26 September newspaper quoted an identified interior ministry official as saying. The security official made it clear that the Yemeni authorities are now in contact with Saudi Arabia for his extradition.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that some 40 to 70 of the detainees suspected of being Al Qaida members will be released after declaring repentance.
"Those who will be set free have already declared their commitment to results of the dialogue conducted by the committee. They declared repentance and condemnation of all forms of terrorism," said Judge Hamoud Al Hitar, a Supreme Court member.
