Workshop to educate on gender identity

Dubai: A two-day workshop for social workers at schools and universities which aims to spread awareness on domestic violence and its effect on gender identity is to start on Wednesday.

The workshop, which is organised by The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children will educate social workers on how domestic violence can have a negative effect on gender identity and study the current students' issues and behaviours to provide the social workers with the necessary skills and communication tools to deal with victims of domestic violence. It will also develop the social workers' skills in dealing with students with gender identity issues.

Speakers will include Dr Fadwa Al Mugeirbi who will discuss biological factors and Dr Shamma Al Falasy who will focus on cultural aspects and gender identity and violence.
