Woman seeks compensation from private beauty clinic

Dubai: A businesswoman who was allegedly disfigured as a result of a skin infection has taken legal action against the private clinic where she received a facial treatment.

The Asian businesswoman, whose marketing job requires her to maintain a presentable appearance, is suing the Dubai-based clinic for Dh150,000 in compensation in the Dubai Civil Court.

In her lawsuit, the plaintiff contends that she sought treatment at the clinic because she wanted to have excess facial hair removed.

"I paid the fees for my treatment and left the clinic [but was] surprised later [when] some white spots appeared on my face," she said.

Alleged malpractice

The woman contends that the areas of her face that were treated at the clinic became infected, resulting in disfigurement. She then sought medical advice at a hospital.

According to the plaintiff, the hospital's doctors informed her that her skin had become infected as a result of alleged malpractice on the part of the clinic, resulting in "something similar to a skin disease".

As a result, the plaintiff alleges that she sustained moral, psychological and financial damages "because the incident ruined her feminine beauty".

"The clinic is responsible for the alleged disfigurement and liable to compensate me, according to article 283 of the Civil Procedures Law," the plaintiff's lawsuit claims.

The Dubai Civil Court will hear the clinic's defence next month.
