NCM warns of fog, scorching temps near 50°C, blowing dust in parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Dubai: Residents across parts of the UAE woke up to a foggy morning today, with the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issuing a fog alert until 8.30am for several areas in the Al Dhafra region, including Ghiyathi, Bad Dafas, and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road between Qareen Al Aish and Mahmiyyat Al Suqour.
The NCM has also reported blowing dust over parts of the UAE, reducing horizontal visibility to less than 2,000 metres at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.
Authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution, as strong winds and suspended dust may continue to affect conditions in some areas.
Despite the misty start, the rest of the day is shaping up to be anything but mild. The Accuweather is warning of “very dangerous heat” across the country, with temperatures soaring up to 46°C in Abu Dhabi and 44°C in Dubai, coupled with hazy sunshine and dusty conditions. Tonight’s conditions will remain partly cloudy and uncomfortably warm, with lows of 36°C in Abu Dhabi and 33°C in Dubai. The heat index, or “real feel,” is significantly higher, reaching 42°C in the capital and 38°C in Dubai, prompting authorities to advise residents to stay indoors during peak hours.
Looking ahead, the NCM forecasts increased cloud cover by night over eastern and southern regions, with a chance of convective rainy clouds forming later today. The weather bureau predicts a slight drop in temperatures by Monday, but unstable conditions are expected to persist through Tuesday, with light rain possible in eastern and southern areas.
Yesterday, the highest temperature recorded in the country was a scorching 48.5°C at Al Jazeera B.G. in Al Dhafra at 3.30pm.
Winds are expected to remain light to moderate, occasionally freshening to cause blowing dust and sand, reducing visibility, especially in eastern and northern regions, at the speed of 10 – 25 reaching 40 km/h. Sea conditions will be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Oman Sea.
Weather safety tips:
· Limit outdoor activities during the day.
· Stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure.
· Motorists are urged to exercise caution in foggy or dusty conditions.
