Ajman: Repeated warnings from the authorities to the public to avoid the outdoors in view of the inclement weather fell on deaf ears in Ajman with motorists seen on the roads until the early hours on Tuesday.

At around 2am, a large number of cars were seen parked on hard shoulders after their drivers finally took note of the rain.

Police patrols were out in strength in Ajman from Monday night until early morning, checking on residents' safety during the thunderstorms.

Life seemed to have returned to normal at around 10am on Tuesday although people were forced back indoors at 12 noon by a heavy downpour.

Roads in Ajman were almost deserted although there was no water on most streets. Pools of water had formed in some areas of the emirate but there were no complaints of flooding.

Schoolbuses half empty

Early Tuesday, some schoolbuses were seen waiting patiently to pick up children at designated stops but many of them eventually left without their regular quota as many (if not all) parents decided not to send their children to school.

Most of the schoolbuses picking up children from Ajman are from schools in Sharjah and Dubai. However, the few children who went to school were seen heading back home before 10am.

Police patrols remained on Ajman's roads through the day but traffic was generally uninterrupted by the heavy rain.
