Abu Dhabi City Municipality has announced the reopening of its parks, recreational facilities and affiliated beaches after temporarily closing them as a precaution during unstable weather.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality said the facilities have reopened following the improvement in weather conditions.
The municipality had announced the precautionary closure on Friday as heavy rain and lightning affected parts of Abu Dhabi. Events at the affected facilities were also suspended.
The closure came as thunderstorms and rainfall swept across parts of the emirate, marking the first reported rain in Abu Dhabi this summer after weeks of intense heat.
The municipality urged residents and visitors to prioritise safety and swim only at designated beaches while following approved safety guidelines and instructions.
Its designated swimming beaches include Corniche Beach and Al Bateen Public Beach.
The municipality said it remains committed to providing a safe environment for visitors to enjoy its beaches while adhering to safety measures.
The reopening comes as unsettled weather is expected to continue across parts of the UAE.
The National Centre of Meteorology forecast fair to partly cloudy conditions on Saturday, with convective clouds developing over eastern, southern and western areas in the afternoon and a chance of rainfall.
The chance of rain is expected to continue on Sunday, particularly over eastern areas, while Monday could bring further cloud development.
The chance of showers is forecast to increase again on Tuesday and Wednesday, with convective clouds and rainfall possible over eastern and southern areas.
Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to exercise caution during unstable weather and follow safe-driving measures.
Drivers were advised to obey temporary speed limits when activated, maintain a safe distance between vehicles and avoid sudden braking or sharp manoeuvres.
Police also warned motorists to avoid valleys and areas where water has accumulated during rainfall.
