UAE seeks EU nod to export fish products

The UAE has asked the European Union to enlist it among the countries allowed to export fish products to EU countries.

The UAE's request and the technical and health files were examined and the EU asked the UAE officials to complete certain technical aspects.

The EU regarded the health aspects of the UAE fish industry compatible to EU requirements, an EU source told Wam yesterday.

"Permitting the UAE to export fish to the EU countries hinges on the UAE's response to the EU's technical enquiries. The reply will be submitted to an inspection committee which has the authority to issue a temporary permit."

The source said he believes the UAE will soon be exporting world-class fish products to the EU which will boost trade cooperation between the EU and the Gulf .
