Dubai: A young Sudanese and his fiancée, also a Sudanese, were killed instantly when the saloon car they were travelling in crashed into a dumper truck loaded with sand on the Abu Dhabi-Suwaihan road, a senior police officer said.
The fiancee's sister, 11, and a Pakistani man sustained serious injuries in the accident, which occurred at 11:09 am on Thursday, said Colonel Hamad Al Shamsi, director of Abu Dhabi Traffic Department.
He added that the accident took place when the driver, N.A.A., 28, entered the highway from a side road without waiting for a gap in traffic.
“His 19 year old fiancée, N.A.R, was sitting in the front seat when the accident took place, her sister was in the rear seat.''
The impact, Al Shamsi said, caused the truck to drag the car for 67 metres and the car got embedded in the underbelly of the truck. The truck then fell on impact onto its side and dupmed its load onto the saloon car and the road.
The injured were flown to Al Mafraq hospital and the victims were taken to the preventive medicine section at Khalifa Medical City.
