Dubai: In the first half of 2013, the internal roads in Al Ghusais 3 and Al Quoz 4 will be paved and improved as part of the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all, a senior official said.

The RTA recently awarded two contracts for the construction of internal roads in Al Ghusais 3 and Al Quoz 4 totalling Dh38 million.

"The two projects represent the initial phase of the Five-Year Plan 2012-2016 endorsed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for paving internal roads at several residential districts in Dubai emirate at a cost of about Dh1 billion," Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, said.

Al Tayer added that the initial phase of the plan covers five residential communities, namely Hatta and Al Ghusais 3 as well as Al Quoz 2, 3 and 4.

"The Internal Roads Project in Al Ghusais 3, which covers an area of 225 hectares, encompasses the construction of roads extending six kilometres along with street lighting and the construction of parking slots for some mosques and public schools in the area," Al Tayer said.

The Dh23-million road project in Al Ghusais 3, where the urbanisation rate exceeds 60 per cent in the area, will begin next month. It is set to be completed within nine months.

The construction project in Al Quoz 4, on the other hand, will begin this week and is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2013.
