Advanced surveillance tech helps authorities track down offender in Sharjah
Sharjah: A driver in Sharjah was arrested after attempting to evade law enforcement by using fake license plates, only to be caught through the emirate’s advanced traffic surveillance systems.
Sharjah Police revealed on Thursday the driver had racked up 137 traffic violations, totaling Dh104,730, and had accumulated 308 black points. His vehicle is now impounded for a period exceeding 764 days.
The arrest followed coordinated efforts between field patrols and the Control and Monitoring Center, according to Colonel Omar Mohammed Bu Ghanem, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department. Sophisticated monitoring systems deployed across Sharjah’s roads flagged the suspicious vehicle, revealing mismatched plates that did not correspond with its registration.
Real-time tracking
Using real-time tracking, authorities swiftly located and apprehended the driver. Investigations confirmed that the individual had intentionally installed fraudulent number plates to avoid detection by smart traffic monitoring systems.
Colonel Bu Ghanem emphasized that tampering with or using false license plates is a serious criminal offense, not a minor traffic infraction. He warned that such actions endanger public safety and will be met with full legal consequences. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
