Two killed in Dubai crash after car jumps signal

Dubai: Two people were killed and six injured when a car crashed into a tourist vehicle after jumping a red light at the Mankhoul-Bur Dubai junction on Thursday night.

The man driving the car, a 36-year-old Briton identified as M.Y.S., admitted to consuming liquor on Thursday morning but denied he was driving under the influence, Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution, told Gulf News on Friday.

A 58-year-old British companion of M.Y.S and a 47-year-old Pakistani travelling in the tourist vehicle died on the spot.

M.Y.S. has been detained for seven days in reserve custody until investigations into the accident are over, Bu Farousha said.

The results of M.Y.S.'s blood tests are expected soon.
