Traffic accident deaths down

Abu Dhabi: An official survey of traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi between January 1 and November 30, 2008, shows death due to fatal injuries decreased by 15 per cent in comparison to the same period of 200.

The survey, conducted by the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police indicated that the number of victims of UAE nationality have also decreased by 23 per cent (from 262 in 2007 to 201) and by 12 per cent among expatriates (from 607 to 537).

A statement by Abu Dhabi Police quoted colonel Hamad Adeel Al Shamisy Head of the Department as saying that continuous research and analysis is being conducted on the available data indicating that many positive achievements have been made since the introduction of the new amendments to the law in March last year.

The survey states that whilst the deaths and fatal injuries caused by accidents on Salam Street decreased from 19 cases to eight, those occurrences led to an increase on Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Highway from 48 to 55 cases.
