Dubai: A woman has been fined Dh200 after she insisted on committing a traffic offence despite the head of the UAE Federal Traffic Council warning her not to.

Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein said that the motorist was blocking the road in front of him in order to cut into line at a busy junction last week, and he told her that he would fine her if she continued.

“I was driving my car when I reached Al Wasel junction to Al Aruba street, and she was blocking the road because she wanted to cut the lane on the left side. She was staying in the open lane which takes you to the right side of the junction and was blocking the road in front of me and other cars. I told her I’m a police officer and what she was doing is an offence, and I preferred to give her a chance,” Maj-Gen Al Zafein said.

But instead of apologising and driving to the right to return to the junction via a u-turn, she didn’t move and kept blocking the road and trying to cut in front of other cars on the left lane.

“She insisted on committing a traffic offence, and didn’t follow the traffic law, and I issued a traffic ticket to her because of her unacceptable behaviour,” Maj-General Al Zafein added.

He said that despite awareness campaigns, warnings and having more patrols on the road to enforce the law, many drivers still insist on committing traffic offences.
