Sharjah: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah has completed a package of road projects serving schools and educational complexes across the emirate, covering a total of six kilometres.
The projects are part of Sharjah’s efforts to provide safe, smooth access for students and parents while ensuring infrastructure readiness ahead of the new academic year.
Abdullah Ahmed Al Ali, Director of Road Maintenance at the authority, said the completed works include a 2.4-kilometre road to Al Qalaa School in Hamriyah, a 1.4-kilometre road to the Zayed Educational Complex in Muzairah, a 1.5-kilometre stretch to the Zayed Complex in Suhaila, Al Dhaid, and a 700-metre link to the Zayed Complex in Saf, Kalba.
Each complex will serve up to 2,500 students, he noted, adding that the new roads and related facilities are fully ready for the start of the school year.
Al Ali added that work is also underway on traffic improvements along University City Road, near Choueifat School, running from Industrial Area 6 to Al Shahba. The project includes the addition of a third lane to ease congestion, along with reconfigured entrances, exits, and parking areas. The upgrades are scheduled for completion by August 24.
Other active projects include refurbishing the roundabout next to the Quran Academy in Muwailih Commercial, which will reopen early next week with smart traffic signals linked to the central control room.
In addition, major works are in progress between Maliha Road and the Ring Road in Industrial Area 17, where a passenger station for Etihad Rail is being built in partnership with the Initiatives Implementation Authority. The surrounding roads are being upgraded to integrate the station into Sharjah’s wider transport network.
