Sharjah: Sharjah Police has made significant progress in making roads safer and protecting lives. Thanks to proactive traffic strategies, the number of road accident deaths in the emirate dropped by 24% in 2024 compared to the previous year. The fatality rate now stands at 1.76 deaths per 100,000 people — clear proof that their safety efforts are working.
As part of these efforts, the Traffic and Patrols Department, in collaboration with the Security Media Department, launched 12 focused road safety campaigns throughout the year. These campaigns aimed to tackle dangerous behaviors that put road users at risk, including distracted driving, illegal parking, jaywalking, speeding, and unsafe driving by motorcyclists. Their awareness programs reached around 905,895 people across different areas in Sharjah.
The department also worked hard to support road security at major events, successfully managing traffic at 272 public activities and events. In addition, they provided traffic support for 1,976 road maintenance and development projects, helping to improve traffic flow and increase overall safety across the emirate.
Brigadier Mohammed Alay Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, emphasised that these positive results are a reflection of strong community cooperation and growing public awareness about road safety. He thanked the public for their role in this achievement and highlighted that Sharjah Police’s vision is built on teamwork — combining prevention, education, and enforcement to protect lives and keep roads safe for everyone.
