Dubai: A Metro station on Shaikh Zayed Road has been named after one of the largest chain of electronics stores in Dubai, Sharaf DG, which has won the naming rights for this station for the first ten years from the launching date.
The station is located on the Red Line quite close to the Salik toll gate near Mall of the Emirates while going toward Jebel Ali. It mainly serves the new developments of Al Barsha 1 commercial and residential area.
Thousands of employees working at car showrooms, banks including the United National Bank, restaurants and a number of recently developed hotels will benefit from this station.
The area offers affordable two- to four-star hotel accommodation and is quite popular among business travellers as some famous brand names including Holiday Inn have recently opened there doors here. Guests at these hotels can ride the train from this station to go to either business houses or just take a trip to interesting tourists attractions without spending a fortune on taxi fares.
The station will also serve residents of Al Sufouh 2 area as an air-conditioned pedestrian crossing links the station to provide access to passengers from the Al Sufouh up market residential community.
Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic is also not far away from the station while it will be the closest station for students and staff of the Dubai National School, Al Akram Arabic School and the Wellington International School.
The station will provide a public transport option for the people living or working in the area as they can save a lot of money on Salik toll system as well. A motorist has to pass all the three Salik gates if he drives from the station to the Dubai International Airport.
The 52.1km-long Red Line of the driverless metro is scheduled to be operational on September 9 this year.
