Safe drivers in Dubai and Sharjah to win Dh1,000 on the spot

Dubai: A road safety campaign will search for and award 30 responsible drivers in Dubai and Sharjah Dh1,000 each from Monday to Wednesday.

The Mobil 1 RoadStar campaign will give the cash prize on the spot after observing motorists practising responsible driving habits on the road.

The campaign will run in Dubai on Monday and Tuesday, followed by Sharjah on Wednesday. It will award 10 drivers each day.

The drive is held twice a year as an ongoing activity that is now in its 35th edition.

Campaign organisers and police officials will be on the lookout for practices such as wearing seat belts, ensuring the use of child safety seats, observing lane discipline, being courteous, using hands-free mobiles and indicators. RoadStar also checks on drivers adhering to the speed limit.

RoadStar is sponsored by Mobil 1, EMA Lubricants Company (ExxonMobil JV), co-sponsored by RSA Insurance and AGMC BMW and organised by Ciel Events & Marketing.

Winners will also be given a certificate by the police department of the emirate they are chosen from. The campaign is also supported by Gulf News, Josh FM and Radio 2.

Col Jamal Al Bannai, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said, “There are many reasons for road accidents and sometimes they are simple mistakes that can have severe implications. It is campaigns such as RoadStar which are making sure that there is continuity to the education process. And, while the winners are given prominence, other drivers become more conscious of the importance of following the rules. We have several initiatives to educate drivers about safe driving, and the added efforts from campaigns such as RoadStar help us to take this process much further. I congratulate the teams involved who work hard to create awareness of safe driving.”

RoadStar has the support of the police in both Dubai and Sharjah. Their personnel are involved in the on-ground processes in selecting the winners and giving away the prized certificate.
