Dubai: Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority on Sunday announced to introduce priority seating at the front of all public buses, reserved specifically for senior citizens, pregnant women, and mothers with children.

The move is part of the RTA's commitment to create a more inclusive and accessible public transport system. Thes initiative also ensures that vulnerable passengers can travel with greater comfort, dignity, and peace of mind, aligning with RTA’s wider mission to make public transport safer and more convenient for everyone.

Reserving front seats for those who need them most is a simple yet powerful step toward a more compassionate commuting culture, he added,

Dubai’s public bus system, a crucial component of the city’s integrated transport network, operates over 1,390 buses on 187 routes, completing 11,000 trips daily and serving more than half a million riders. These modern, air-conditioned buses are equipped with advanced safety and accessibility features to serve all segments of society, including People of Determination.

Priority seating

The priority seating policy is complemented by ongoing infrastructure upgrades. The RTA recently completed an extensive inspection and maintenance campaign of bus shelters, with operational readiness confirmed for continued service improvements through mid-2025.

In parallel, RTA is expanding dedicated bus and taxi lanes, with six new lanes spanning 13 kilometers set to launch soon. These lanes are expected to boost ridership by 10%, cut journey times by 41%, and improve punctuality by 42%.

Nine express routes

To further support efficient travel, nine express routes, nine metro link services, and four taxi routes have been introduced this year, targeting high-demand areas and offering seamless connections to the Dubai Metro, Tram, marine transport, and taxi systems.

Modern smart bus stations are also being rolled out, equipped with digital information systems, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly features, and full accessibility for all riders.

These improvements reflect RTA’s overarching goal: to make public transport the first choice for daily commutes by ensuring it is not only fast and efficient, but also respectful and inclusive for every resident and visitor in Dubai.
