Ras Al Khaimah: Police in Ras Al Khaimah confiscated 24 motorcycles in a day as part of a campaign to enforce traffic rules and safety, said police on Wednesday.

Police aim to stop riding of motorcycles without a licence, which is one of the main causes of traffic-related deaths, and also a nuisance to residents and other road users, said Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Mohammad Mattar, Head of Al Rams Police Station.

The campaign, Watching eyes, to enforce traffic rules started on the first day of Ramadan, he said.

Lt. Col. Mattar said campaign will cover all roads and highways of Ras Al Khaimah emirate.

An inspection committee have been able to identify areas where illegal street races are carried out and have documented details of all motorbikes involved in such activities.

He also urged shop owners not to allow their workers to ride motorbikes for delivery without licence for their safety as well as the safety of other road users.
