Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, ordered that Dh26,168,000 be paid to Emiratis who own private taxi number plates, which are hired to Dubai Taxi Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
There are currently 6,542 such number plates. Dubai Taxi will start the payment of due amounts to entitled individuals along with the annual payable dues.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, praised Shaikh Mohammad's gesture of rewarding owners of public taxi number plates, most of whom have a limited income.
"This payment will help them and their families lead a better life and cope with living requirements," he said.
He said such a reward is one of the several initiatives which Shaikh Mohammad has been offering citizens.
He said this mirrors the attention and the follow-up by Shaikh Mohammad regarding the living and social conditions of his people, particularly those with limited income.
This payment will help them [Emirati taxi owners] and their families lead a better life and cope with living requirements."
