Al Ain: Al Ain Municipality has set up special places for long-term vehicle parking.

It has also imposed a ban on leaving cars unattended in front of houses in residential neighbourhoods and general parking lots in the city over a long period of time.

The measure has been introduced to control the practice of leaving cars in parking lots for many days, especially when a majority of people go on annual summer holidays.

"These cars get dusty and dirty after several days and present an ugly scene, thus spoiling the city image," said Hamad Al Neyadi, Director of the Public Health Department of the Municipality.

He appealed to the residents to stop the practice and cooperate with the administration in maintaining the city's image and preventing theft. People will first be issued a warning for the violation and than the car will be impounded upon non-compliance.

Unattended long-term parking has been creating a problem in the city's Industrial Area.

Many people leave their cars, trucks and other vehicles behind. The Municipality has also posted 22 signs in different parts of the city to guide the residents towards the special long-term parking zones.

He said 19 more such signs will be posted in the city and people will be educated with the help of media and police.

"We are making all efforts to educate the residents on the importance of compliance with the law and we are also providing assistance and possible alternatives to avoid the disturbing practice," he added.

The Municipality official also warned residents to stop hanging "for sale" posters on the vehicles.

Really appreciate this step towards making the city look even more beautiful.
