First phase of the Unified Traffic system becomes operational

Abu Dhabi: The eagerly awaited Unified Traffic system (UTS), linking all traffic departments in the country, has become operational.

Two weeks after it was launched, the system in its first phase is already witnessing customer satisfaction, say police officials.

At this preliminary stage residents can avail of facilities such as cancellation of registration of a vehicle or the transfer of ownership in any emirate, irrespective of the emirate where the vehicle was registered.

Before the unified system came into effect, a car registered in one emirate could only be cancelled or transferred in the same emirate. The UTS uses a complete database of all traffic files across all the emirates in the UAE. Once the system is completed a wide range of services can be completed by the customers with ease.

Brigadier Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, the Director of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the system helps customers complete transactions in a matter of minutes.

New strategy

Abu Dhabi Police have said an ambitious strategy for the next five years, 2008 -2012 will be unveiled on Tuesday.

The new progressive strategic development plans are being put forth under the theme "A Progressive police for a modern city".

Brigadier Nasser Al Nuaimi, Director General of the office of the Minister of Interior, will announce the details to the media at the Police Officers Club, in the presence of senior officials.

The strategy will establish the vision, mission and values of the police department, apart from the strategic steps they will be implementing.
