Ras Al Khaimah The Ras Al Khaimah traffic court has sentenced a British motorist to one month in prison and fined him Dh27,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol and disobeying traffic signs, a judiciary official said Wednesday.
The verdict was given by Presiding Judge Mohammad Bin Muftah Al Khatri.
The motorist told the judge that he was invited to a dinner party in Dubai and that he did not know how he reached Ras Al Khaimah, the official said.
Blood test
An official said that drivers informed police that a reckless motorist was endangering the lives of others on Emirates Road heading towards Ras Al Khaimah late in the evening. Police patrols were instructed to stop the vehicle at the emirate's entrance. The motorist was drunk and was not aware of what he was doing, the official said.
"The motorist was instantly subjected to a breathalyser test. Anyone who tests positive then undergoes a blood test. The test was used as proof in court that he was driving under the influence of alcohol," the official said.
