Driver grilled over sudden accident causing 7 injuries on Emirates Road

A driver has been detained for negligently injuring six people after he inattentively swerved to the right and hit a heavy truck which struck a car parked on Emirates Road's shoulder this afternoon.

Dubai: A driver has been detained for negligently injuring six people after he inattentively swerved to the right and hit a heavy truck which struck a car parked on Emirates Road's shoulder this afternoon.

The Asian pickup driver, who sustained a serious injury in the accident which happened at 2.15pm, has been admitted to hospital where he has been placed under provisional detention until further investigation, according to Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution.

"The driver lost control over his pickup which suddenly swerved from the extreme left lane on the seven-lane Emirates Road to the right side and hit a heavy pickup truck… the truck collided with a vehicle parked on the road shoulder. The car's four passengers were hurt and the heavy truck's driver also sustained moderate injuries. The light pickup driver sustained a serious injury and the passenger who escorted him incurred a moderate injury," said Bu Farousha.

The victims were mostly Indians and Pakistanis. The investigation continues.
