Dubai: "Moving People" is another campaign the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched aimed at encouraging people to use public transport, especially the buses.

Through the campaign, the RTA aims at highlighting the benefits of using public buses and focuses on various special features of the vehicles with emphasis on security and safety of commuters.

In order to boost the public transport service, the RTA has equipped its modern fleet of buses with a range of new technologies that ensure passenger comfort.

The new buses have a modern air-conditioning system that eliminates unpleasant odours; something that has always bothered commuters. The buses are also equipped with an electronic destination and route display system, and are fitted with screens and personal reading lights.

Taking into consideration the comfort of women, children and elderly passengers, the RTA has provided special seats for them.

A low-floor with a reserved seating area and a dedicated entrance has been provided to accommodate the requirements of people with special needs.

Air-conditioned bus shelters across the city have been fitted with maps to show bus routes.

The buses are also fitted with the Electronic Stability Programme that gives drivers better control of the vehicle, ensures stability on the road, and significantly minimises the risk of skidding.

In accordance with international safety and security standards, the RTA has fitted all its buses with emergency exits, alarm systems, fire extinguishers and first aid kits.

RTA has to do a lot more. Ensure that all buses are running on time. Even some drivers behave like the public bus is their personal property. They should revise the routes too. For eg. From rashidiya bus station there is no direct bus to bur dubai. 44 no bus that goes to burdubai from rashidiya is taking 2hrs now to cover 30 mins travel coz of area it covers. And laboures in their work dress should not be allowed to use public buses. They will be all covered with dirt and sweat. Constant checking in the buses by inspectors is needed.
