Dubai: There were 1,356 traffic accidents in Dubai in the first half of this year, which resulted in 90 deaths.

Pakistani drivers caused the most accidents between January and June, Dubai Traffic Statistics show.

Emiratis came in second, followed by Indians and then Egyptians.

Pakistani drivers were involved in causing 166 accidents, which killed 31 people and injured 300. Of the 300, 31 were severely injured, 85 moderately injured and 154 sustained minor injuries in the first half of this year.

Emirati drivers came in second with 139 accidents that killed 16 people and wounded 226, of which 13 were seriously injured, 64 were moderately injured and 133 sustained minor injuries.

Indian drivers caused 135 incidents during the same period, which resulted in the deaths of 20 people and injuries to 231. There were 22 people seriously injured, 69 moderately injured and 120 sustained minor injuries.

Egyptian drivers caused 33 accidents, which killed six people and injured 67.

There was an increase in the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents in Dubai in the first half of this year compared with the last period last year, with 90 this year compared with 82 in the same period last year.

The majority of the accidents took place in the evening, with 704 accidents occurring in the evening and 650 in the morning.

There were 1,162 people injured, of which 505 were drivers, 480 were passengers and 177 were pedestrians.

One hundred and five people sustained severe injuries, 330 sustained moderate injuries and 637 sustained minor injuries.

Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said that sudden swerving was the leading cause of accidents with 284 accidents, which resulted in 31 deaths and 304 injuries.

Not leaving enough space between vehicles came in second with 260 accidents.
