Dubai: Nearly 6 million passengers used the Dubai Metro till December 9.

Statistics prepared by the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) Rail Agency showed that the number of passengers is steadily on the rise.

The number of passengers since the start of the Metro operation until the end of September was 1,198,699. The figure went up in October to 1,762,816 passengers. The number of Metro passengers continued to grow to touch 1,904,956 in November.

Ramadan Abdullah, Director of the Rail Operations Department at the Rail Agency, stated that the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station topped the list of stations in passenger volumes during the period from September 9 up to December 9; with 929,116 passengers using the station.

This was followed by Khalid Bin Al Waleed Station (791,452 passengers), Al Ittihad Station (711,785 passengers), Al Rashidiya Station (586,555 passengers), Nakheel Harbour & Tower Station (555,010 passengers), Deira City Centre Station (535,170 passengers), Dubai Financial Centre Station (462,941 passengers), Al Rigga Station (382,443 passengers), Al Jafiliya Station (289,222 passengers), and Airport Terminal 3 Station with a passenger count of 214,051.

Abdullah pointed out that the average daily passenger volume of the Dubai Metro is 59,347 passengers and that the number of daily passengers at the Mall of the Emirates Station is estimated at 10,000. Al Rigga and Al Ittihad stations are used by nearly 8,000 people each on average.

Abdullah added: "The success of the Metro is a real success for the city of Dubai and a true reflection of the development witnessed by Dubai city in various walks of life, the latest of which is Dubai Metro."
