Traffic bottlenecks hit motorists

Frustrated motorists have been tearing their hair out for the past several days after getting caught in traffic jams on three main Dubai arteries. Many have been forced to sit in traffic for more than an hour in trips that usually took only 30 minutes.

Commuters from Bur Dubai to Deira found the normally crowded Al Garhoud Bridge and Al Shindagah tunnel impassable because of the snarl-ups.

The problem is because of asphalting of Al Maktoum Bridge, the other cross-creek route, which is scheduled to be finished by tomorrow.

Gulf News spoke to Lieutenant Colonel Omar Abdul Aziz, Director of the Operations Department, who said that the cause of the traffic snarls was the construction work on the road leading to Maktoum Bridge.

He pointed out that this is adding extra pressure to an already overburdened Al Garhoud Bridge.
