Jerrie Jordaan told XPRESS that despite repeated attempts by him to get HSBC to remove his name from their mailing list, nothing has happened.

Madness

Jordaan, who lives in The Springs, is a facilities manager at Abu Dhabi Mall and has to have his mobile phone switched on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to potential emergencies. "I didn't have much hair when this started but I've got even less now after all these nuisance messages," he said.

The problems began in April when he was given a SIM card for his phone by his employer.

"Pretty much from day one I began to receive SMSes from HSBC offering credit cards and other services on my account but the trouble is I don't have an account with them," Jordaan said. "These messages come between midnight and 2am on most nights and it has become a huge nuisance. Sometimes I get one message, other times two or three but it's always worse at the end of the month when I also get offers for discounted rates on my non-existent account."

An HSBC spokeswoman said: "We would like to apologise for the inconvenience Jerrie Jordaan has experienced. We have assured Jordaan that he will not be receiving any further SMS from HSBC."
