Crown Prince also announces next season of Muezzin Al Freij initiative for call to prayer
Dubai: Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, on Sunday launched the second season of the ‘Muezzin Al Freij’ initiative with a renewed focus on strengthening family roles in promoting national identity and Islamic values among younger generations.
Sheikh Hamdan also announced the launch of the ‘Quran in Every Home’ campaign, aimed at ensuring every household in Dubai has a copy of the Quran, enhancing religious awareness and accessibility.
As part of the initiative, Quran copies will be distributed in several mosques across Dubai, especially those receiving large numbers of worshippers, encouraging families to recite and reflect on its verses during Ramadan, which begins in seven weeks.
The second season of Muezzin Al Freij will expand the number of participating mosques by 50% and target children aged 6-14 to strengthen their connection to mosques and encourage them to recite the call to prayer (adhan) and participate in Tarawih, the voluntary night prayers during Ramadan.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that the initiative second edition of the initiative aims to deepen children’s bond with mosques, foster community engagement, and leave a lasting impression on their spiritual growth.
Sheikh Hamdan’s directives is in line with the leadership’s vision to enhance the family’s role in instilling national identity and social values in the younger generation. It encourages children to attend mosques in traditional Emirati attire, promoting cultural and national pride, respectful conduct, and collaboration among peers. The initiative will also highlight the role of mosques as centres for education, character building, and community development.
Ahmad Darwish Al Muhairi, Director-General of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Hamdan for supporting the initiative’s second season. He noted that the programme aligns with Dubai’s Social Agenda 33, which aims to create the happiest, most cohesive families rooted in values and national identity.
Al Muhairi highlighted that the initiative will play a key role in nurturing a generation committed to serving their community, fostering a connection with mosques, and showcasing the beauty of the adhan as a call to worship.
The IACAD announced that registration for Muezzin Al Freij will open on January 13, with a deadline for submissions by February 7. The evaluation phase will commence on February 10, during which entries will be assessed based on strict criteria to select the most promising voices for the adhan.
