The child showed composure and was able to guide the officer to the exact location
Sharjah Civil Defence has honoured a 10-year-old boy, Saud Ahmed Al Jarwan, after his quick-thinking call to emergency services enabled rescue teams to swiftly contain a vehicle fire in the emirate's Al Qarain area.
The recognition ceremony, held as part of the authority’s commitment to strengthening community partnership, saw officials praise the child for demonstrating remarkable composure and a strong sense of civic responsibility during a critical moment.
Saud told Gulf News that he first noticed the car ablaze in a mosque parking area near his residence on Saturday evening, prompting him to immediately dial the Civil Defence emergency number, 997, and provide a clear description of the location.
"I have known the Civil Defence number and other emergency numbers since childhood. We learned them at school,” Saud said, adding that reporting the incident was simply a "national duty."
According to the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, his prompt and accurate information allowed responders to reach the scene without delay, successfully bringing the situation under control in a short time and thereby minimising potential damage.
Brigadier Youssef Obeid Harmoul Al Shamsi, Head of Sharjah Civil Defence, commended Saud's bravery and presence of mind, noting that his response reflects the positive impact of ongoing awareness campaigns.
“The child’s actions support civil defence efforts, reduce potential losses and contribute to enhanced public safety,” Brigadier Al Shamsi stated, stressing that community cooperation remains a key pillar of emergency response.
The authority further highlighted that the recognition carries a wider awareness message, reinforcing the idea that safety knowledge is not restricted by age and that correct action during critical moments can make a significant difference in saving lives and property.
