The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry is working on a plan to start an e-commerce service as part of its new plans for next year to further facilitate the needs of the business community.

The chamber also plans a special complaint or facilitation cell to help the business community. Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, Chairman, said on Tuesday the e-commerce plan is being developed to cope with the future needs of businessmen and traders.

"Effective 2003, business houses will be able to renew their licences through the Internet, and will also be able to access information about trade and business activities in the emirate," he added, while talking to leading businessmen at a Ramadan reception hosted by the chamber at the new Sharjah Expo Centre complex.

Officials from the chamber, Sharjah Economic Develop-ment and other government departments also attended the function, which aimed at fostering closer interaction with the business community.

Al Midfa asked the business community to approach the chamber and the economic department without any hesitation if they face any problem with any department in the emirate.

"We will try our best to help you, following the directions of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

"A special consultation committee comprising members of the chamber, economic department and businessmen will also be set up to boost economic activity and foster closer interaction," he added.

He said the chamber is working on a comprehensive plan for 2003 to boost business and trade activity in the emirate.

"We are reaching out to businessmen and potential investors even outside the country and will participate in various trade fairs and exhibitions around the world," he said.

He also urged local businessmen, especially manufacturers, to actively participate in the exhibitions and fairs held in Sharjah to promote 'Made in Sharjah' products.
