Deep Sen Gupta emerged as sole leader with a tally of seven points at the end of the eighth and penultimate round of Dubai Junior Open chess championship, held at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

Aghayev Nijat, Safarli Eltaj and Vic Neil Villanueva are in the second spot with six and a half points while Mahdi Ayat and Omid Noroozi are in the third spot with six points.

Deep Sen Gupta easily defeated Hamad Abdul Razaq in 37 moves. Hamad Abdul Razaq committed a mistake in the early stage and as a result lost a pawn during the middle game.

Hamad put up a stiff resistance in an inferior position, but was ousted by a tactical combination which enabled the black to win a piece. The rest was routine technique.

Aghayev Nijat of Azerbaijan defeated Omid Noroozi in a prolonged match which lasted 40 moves. It was a complicated battle in which both players competed for control of centre. Omid succeeded in the winning position, but went astray and lost the match.
