RAK enquiry into mysterious explosion on fishing boat

Ras Al Khaimah: The emirate’s authorities are investigating the mysterious explosion of a fishing boat in Al Rams area Tuesday.

The Emirati owner of the boat and his Asian assistant sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. Sources in Al Rams said the boat which was docking on Al Rams shores surprisingly exploded and people there reported the accident to the emirate’s Police and Civil Defence who rushed to the scene and took over the case.

The authorities launched an intensive investigation in the accident which shocked the residents of the area.

Eye witnesses and residents of Al Rams said they were shocked by the explosion which was heard from a long distance and attracted the attention of the people who arrived to the scene to watch. The authorities had sealed off the scene.

The sources stressed that the conditions were normal in the boat and there have been no sign of any kind to indicate the boat was in danger. Sources said this was the first time in very long to encounter such an incident where a fishing boat exploded for no apparent reason.

The emirate’s Police said that the accident is under investigation and declined to comment, stressing that nothing will be released till the investigations is over.
