Gemologist advises on appropriate use of gemstones
Gems have been used and valued for their metaphysical and astrological influences in the East since the Vedic times, which is over thousands of years now.
Gemology deals not only with the study of gems but also the precise science relating these elements of nature with the nine planets. It is believed that wearing appropriate natural gemstones can channelise the energies of these astral bodies to provide the desired power and harmony in life.
Anjali Dipesh Bhandari, a gemologist from India, gives her clients case-specific advice on the gemstones they can use to counter their financial, health and family-related problems.
"Each individual has a distinct aura of colours around him. There must be stability within these colours and their energies. A gem is a medium that absorbs energy from the sun and emits it into our body. Therefore, it is important that the right gem is used so that the right kind of energies are taken in," says Anjali, who has been successfully consulting clients for almost five years.
"During a consultation, I analyse the psychological aspect of the client and the imbalances in his life. After a thorough case study, I give a written report stating which gem will suit him best and why," she says.
"Even using birthstones blindly without seeking advice can be unsafe. I am a Leo and accordingly my birthstone is ruby. But I cannot hold a real ruby for more than a minute. The stone is too strong for me, it makes me tremble and feel ill.
"When using gems as a charm, one must keep the respective piece of jewellery in contact with the body at all times. It must not be removed unless advised otherwise. Like in life, where there are friends and foes, it is observed that some gems can be worn together while others repel each other causing harm to the bearer," she adds.
"Rubies can be worn with pearls but the pair clashes with blue sapphire. Emeralds and rubies also go against each other. They can be worn together as casual jewellery but not otherwise."
Gemstones are worn in the right hand, which is the hand for astrophysical powers. However, women must wear their diamonds on the left hand to attract power, name and fame.
Though each gem has a significance of its own, colour and clarity must not be overlooked. "The yellow sapphire on my index finger is to smoothen the ups and down in life and the emerald in the little finger is to bring in matrimonial bliss and fertility," explains Anjali.
Being a gemologist, she confesses that the first thing she notices about a person is the gems he or she may have on.
Perhaps that is why she never fails to notice the awesome blue sapphire ring that Indian film star Amitabh Bachchan wears in the middle finger of his right hand, or even the turquoise emerald that Salman Khan, another Indian star, has in his inseparable silver bracelet.
