The mosque, spanning 6,388 square metres, can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers
Sharjah: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Arada, on Thursday inaugurated the Quran Mosque in Aljada, one of the largest mosques in the emirate.
The new landmark, spanning 6,388 square metres, is notable for its column-free interior design, which provides worshippers with an open, uninterrupted prayer space. Sultan bin Ahmed led the Dhuhr prayer during the opening ceremony.
The mosque can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers, with capacity for 1,600 in the main prayer hall, 1,000 in the courtyard, and 400 in the women’s section.
Architecturally, the Quran Mosque features a striking circular dome and a 39-metre-high minaret. Its façade blends simplicity with elegant Arabic calligraphy, creating a modern Islamic aesthetic that complements Sharjah’s distinctive urban identity.
The mosque is equipped with several facilities, including private rooms for contemplation, residences for the imam and muezzin, ablution areas, and restrooms. Designed to serve both residents and visitors, it offers a serene spiritual setting while also adding a prominent architectural landmark to the Aljada community.
During the ceremony, religious scholar Salem Al Doubi highlighted the significance of mosques in Islam, describing them as centres of worship, peace, and community.
He stressed that mosques unite people in good deeds and hold a special place as the houses of God. Citing the example of the Prophet Muhammad’s establishment of Quba Mosque in Medina, he reminded attendees of the Prophet’s words: “Whoever builds a mosque for God, even if it is the size of a sparrow’s nest, God will build for him a house in Paradise.” He offered prayers for those who contributed to the construction of the new mosque.
The Quran Mosque is the first to be completed in Aljada, with two more planned as part of Arada’s wider development of community infrastructure. The initiative reflects Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to ensure mosques are easily accessible across the emirate, supporting its commitment to social cohesion and Islamic values.
The inauguration was attended by senior officials including Abdullah Khalifa Al Subousi, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council; and Khalifa Al Shaibani, General Manager of Tilal Properties, along with other dignitaries.
