Monitoring of domestic worker recruitment agencies to ensure the rights of all parties
Dubai: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that 14 domestic worker recruitment agencies faced legal and administrative actions in January this year for violating the Domestic Workers Law.
A total of 22 violations were detected, including 20 cases where agencies failed to refund recruitment fees within the mandated two-week period after a domestic worker’s return or absence. Two additional violations were reported for non-compliance with MoHRE’s regulations and guidelines.
In its statement, the Ministry said that it would take firm action against any agency found guilty of violating the law, which could include the revocation of licences for agencies involved in severe infractions. MoHRE also reiterated its commitment to closely monitor recruitment agencies to ensure compliance with legal requirements, safeguarding the rights of all parties involved.
Report violations
The Ministry urged employers to report any violations, particularly concerning delays in refunding recruitment fees, through its official digital channels or the Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre at 80084. MoHRE reassured employers that it would handle complaints with transparency and promptness.
Essential role
Highlighting the essential role of domestic worker recruitment agencies, MoHRE said that these agencies must ensure the provision of qualified workers while adhering to all legal obligations. The Ministry also warned people against engaging with unlicensed agencies or dubious social media services, which pose risks to health, security, and legal standing.
Employers are encouraged to consult the Ministry’s website at www.mohre.gov.ae to verify the official list of licensed recruitment agencies, avoiding fraud and ensuring compliance with legal standards.
