Ras Al Khaimah: An aged couple tied the nuptial knot on Thursday at the emirate's court after they converted to Islam and chose to marry the Islamic way.

The 73-year-old American national, identified as Dawny, and the 60-year-old Frenchwoman, identified as Projeit, were engaged in matrimony after 20 years of courtship!

The Attestation Section of the emirate's court, under the supervision of Sharia Judge Mohammad Hamdan Al Shehi, announced the couple man and wife according to Muslim regulations.

A senior court official said the couple had very recently converted to Islam and announced their intention to get married according to the Sharia laws.

The official added that the court issued the couple a marriage contract and a marriage card. The couple said they would live the rest of their lives peacefully in Ras Al Khaimah, which they consider as the ideal place.

Dawny later said the reason behind the late marriage was that his earlier religion did not allow polygamy (having more than one wife at the same time).

Islam was his ideal choice. He added that according to the teachings of his earlier religion, he could not have married for the second time until two years had passed since the divorce with his first wife. He said this condition did not apply once he became a Muslim.
