Nobel winner Zuwail to attend Arab Media Forum

Dubai: More than 2,000 media and academic personalities will attend the 9th edition of the two-day Arab Media Forum (AMF) that starts at the Atlantis Hotel on Palm Jumierah on Wednesday.

Organised by the Dubai Press Club, the forum will analyse key industry issues of specific relevance to the Arab world through panel sessions and workshops in which 70 speakers will be participating.

The forum this year is themed ‘Shifting Mediascape… Inspiring Content, Expanding Reach'.

The event will also include a ceremony for the Shaikh Majid Media Awards on the first day, while winners of the Arab Journalism Awards will be honoured on the second day to mark the conclusion of AMF 2010.

Mariam Bin Fahd, Executive Director, Dubai Press Club, said: "The increasing numbers of registrations seeking participation at the forum validates its status in the media industry as a must-attend annual calendar event. We are extremely encouraged by this response and are relentlessly working towards delivering a results-oriented event that will offer solutions for taking the industry forward in the Arab world."

Virtue of listening

Dr Ahmad Zuwail, recipient of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry (1999), will deliver the opening speech.

Dr Zuwail will also participate in a panel discussion titled ‘Building the Future - The role of science and media'. The session will be moderated by Ahmad Moslemany, presenter of First Edition on Dream TV.

Michael Golden, Vice-Chairman, Board of Directors, The New York Times Company, and President and Chief Operating Officer, The New York Times Company Regional Media Group, will highlight the challenges to journalism in the digital era during a dedicated session at the ninth Arab Media Forum in Dubai.

During a session titled ‘Don't Interrupt Me! - The Etiquette of Dialogue and the Virtue of Listening', Amr Adib, Faisal Al Qasim, Marcel Ganem, Turki Al Dakhil and Mohammad Al Nughaimish will discuss the etiquette of dialogue.
