New television channel launched

A dedicated 24–hour Quran Channel has been launched by Worldspace during Ramadan.

The Quran Channel has been conceived, designed and programmed to serve the educational and spiritual needs of the community.

The channel has recitations from the Quran and discussions between eminent speakers as well as live broadcasts of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) sessions.

DIHQA sessions being broadcast on the Quran channel will run from 9pm to 10.30pm and 11pm to 1am until October 29.

“Along with Channel Islam International (CHI), a 24–hour channel dedicated for the Islamic community on the Worldspace platform, Quran Channel provides a unique combination of infotainment during Ramadan” said Khowla Lootah, managing director of Worldspace Middle East.

CHI features dedicated Islamic news, education, specific programmes for women and children as well as programmes on Hadeeth (stories and beliefs), Tafseer (interpretation) and the Seerah (biographies) during Ramadan.

Viewers will be able to hear Islamic scholars and teachers discuss and speak on various topics, including how to understand Islam better, zakat (purification and growth), heart of the Quran, taqwa (fear of Allah) and the door of heaven is open.

The line–up of prominent scholars includes Shaikh Ahmad Al Kubeisi, Dr Khalid Al Jebeir, Dr Omar Abdul Kafi, Al Habib Ali Al Jafri, Shaikh Saeed Al Zayani, Shaikh Ebrahim Al Talha, Shaikh Ebrahim Al Darwish, Professor Dellawar Hussain (a Bangladeshi member of parliament), Abdul Samad Samdani (an Indian member of parliament) and Yousuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens).

The Quran Channel is exclusively available on Worldspace on the Afristar transmission and listeners can tune in using a Worldspace receiver on Channel 596.

Meanwhile, Kairali TV is airing a programme on the importance of the Holy Quran in the life of a Muslim. Every night at 11 pm throughout Ramadan. The programme is produced in association with the Qatar Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre.
