Mother to help charities with Muscat-Dubai run

Dubai: Mother-of-one Jane Beere, has taken up the challenge of running from Muscat to Dubai in the name of charity.

Beere, 47, from the UK, is currently running 10 marathons in 10 days in aid of two charities — the Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) Ranches Vietnam Project (www.thejvp.org) and the Nyumbani Orphanages, www.nyumbani.org.

The total distance of 422 kilometres will be achieved by running a half marathon each morning and each afternoon for 10 consecutive days. Beere started her run near the Muscat Intercontinental Hotel on March 26 and will be finishing at JESS Arabian Ranches on Sunday.

In a statement, Beere said that she has lived in Dubai since 1997 with her husband and daughter Rebecca, who is in her last year at JESS, Arabian Ranches.

"Like many others in the UAE, I love to run and have been blessed with the health and opportunity to do so."

During Beere's time in Dubai, she has completed an ultra marathon of the Two Oceans 56km race in Cape Town, eight Dubai marathons, and eight Dubai Creek Striders half marathons. Further athletic feats include several Wadi Bih runs, where teams run through the mountains, and two team triathlons, in addition to numerous shorter runs around the region.

"I currently run with the Dubai Creek Striders Club who focus on marathon training and long-distance running. I am very much an early morning runner you can see me pounding the streets around Internet City at 5am most mornings."

The distance for this charity run is 422km, measured so because it is equal to ten marathons.

"I have chosen these dates because they coincide with school holidays, and of course temperatures are not too high at that time of year. I have chosen to do this particular run because I wanted to do something different that hadn't been done in this region. I have selected two charities, both of which are close to my heart."

The first charity organisation chosen as a beneficiary from the marathon was JESS Ranches Vietnam Project, since it was where her daughter gained her secondary education. The second was the Nyumbani Orphanages, as Kenya is where she spent part of her childhood and is a country that she holds close to her heart.
