Indian designer Ekta Singh showcases bridal collection

Young fashion consultant and designer Ekta Singh celebrates the multifaceted woman of today with a fusion of the contemporary and the traditional. Currently in Dubai, she is showcasing her designer wear in a mélange of linen outfits with vibrant floral embroideries, lycra nets and flowing chiffons with lavish embroideries.

One can see traditional forms of embroidery like kasab and chikankari meeting soft georgettes and free flowing crepes in a marriage that produces exquisite lehengas, shararas and other elegant collections.

Ekta specialises in bridal and trousseau wear. "When a bride comes to a designer she looks for variety in her trousseau. Any young girl getting married needs Western, Indo-Western, traditional Indian and lots more for even daywear," explains Ekta. "I cater to suit her requirements keeping in mind her complexion, body type and lifestyle."

Not only does the bride get the trousseau of her dreams, Ekta also offers the bride's complete family a coordinated range of theme wear, including the bride's mother. She also caters to individual clients.

With an eye for detailing her own garments, right from the time she stepped out of school, she was clear that she wanted to get into fashion, and make a career of it. She topped her fashion designing and merchandising course from the prestigious 'House of Pearl - The Pearl Academy', followed by a short stint at the London School of Fashion.

Right after, she interned with export houses as a fashion consultant and simultaneously started her own label. "It is a wearable line of outfits which can be dressed up with jewellery for a wedding occasion, or used as a smart and lively attire for the festive season," she says.

Resident of South Delhi in India, Ekta has designed for celebrities including singers, politicians and top industrialists.

She has been participating in Bridal Asia, a wedding event that takes place in Delhi, for the last two years, but opted out this year to concentrate on the Dubai and New York market.

"I have been to Dubai before and actually love it, but this is my first business trip and also the best time of the year to exhibit with Diwali around the corner and the approaching wedding season."

She will also be taking orders on her collection.
