Move reflects appreciation of Egyptian people for role played by UAE
Abu Dhabi: One of the major squares in Luxor, Egypt, will be named after President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, announced Dr Sultan Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, during an interview with a local Arabic daily.
The move reflects the Egyptian people’s appreciation of the UAE and Shaikh Khalifa, and the role played by the UAE in achieving stability and development in Egypt.
Maj Gen Tareq Sa’ad Al Deen, Governor of Luxor province, said that one of the largest squares in Luxor has now been named after Shaikh Khalifa due to popular demand, in recognition of the historical stance of the UAE in support of Egypt.
In the interview, Al Jaber said that the UAE, in cooperation with Egypt, is working on the launch of a future plan to revitalise the Egyptian economy and put it on a sustainable growth path.
A study has been conducted as well to develop systems and legislations to boost the economy’s ability to attract investments into the sectors that contribute to promoting growth, creating jobs and increasing the country’s GDP, with a focus on job creation and addressing the challenges of providing energy, food and housing security to reap benefits quickly.
Al Jaber highlighted the rates of completion for projects provided by the UAE in Egypt, including the production of serum insulin, 50,000 housing units, the construction of 100 schools, and the development of infrastructure for sanitation in 151 villages, in addition to the construction of 78 health clinics in 23 provinces as well as a project to build four bridges and the development of protective fencing for 41 railway lines.
He stated that the majority of Egyptian governorates will benefit from the UAE projects and more than 8 million Egyptians will gain from them directly, pointing out that the UAE team working on these projects consists of a number of qualified cadres who possess excellent practical experience in project management, and a team based permanently in Cairo.
