Jumbo Electronics has announced the implementation of a tier one ERP (enterprise resource planning) software programme.

The multimillion dollar initiative is to further streamline internal business processes and improve focus on customer service through the adoption of CRM (customer relationship management).

Completion is scheduled before the start of the company's new financial year in April, 2003.

"Jumbo Electronics stands committed to transforming itself into a world-class corporation by adopting best practices that are now found embedded in tier one ERP solutions such as JD Edwards," said V.M. Chhabria, chairperson of Jumbo Group.

For the implementation, KPMG is the partner and UCMC will do the supply and installation of IBM's AS400 platform.

The ERP system will help integrate all departments and functions across the company on to a single system using a single database.

This will result in easy sharing of information and communication between divisions. It will also promote transparency between the company and its business partners.

"The payback from this ERP induced integrated approach will lead to enhanced productivity that should translate into healthier profits," said Vishesh Bhatia, chief operating officer of Jumbo Electronics.
