The e-Mirsal solution will be installed at the Jebel Ali customs centre within a month, a senior Dubai Customs official said. Currently, over 900 companies in the Jebel Ali Free Zone have signed up and others are expected to follow shortly. The e-Mirsal is an updated version of the Mirsal software developed by customs to bring in a paperless work environment.
Companies that register with e-Mirsal have access to all customs clearance documents on imports, exports, re-exports, transit and temporary imports via the Internet to process electronic documents for customs clearance. "This system has received a warm welcome by all companies and they have expressed their readiness to participate in it, specially as they feel they can benefit from the system by saving time and money while their efficiency and speed of procedure is highly secured," said Adel Al Shirawi, assistant director-general for financial and administrative affairs.
