Ras Al Khaimah doctors save nine-month-old baby's life after risky operation

Ras Al Khaimah: A high-risk operation by a team of doctors at the Al Saqr hospital her saved the life of an infant girl who had inhaled a bead on Sunday.

An Indian baby underwent a bronchoscope operation to remove the foreign object that had blocked her left lung.

Nine-month-old Alfina Roy was in a critical condition after her panicky father tried to remove the bead from her mouth with his fingers but was inhaled by the baby into her left lung.

The Indian family belatedly referred their daughter to Saqr Hospital the next day where a team of surgeons led by Dr Magdi Thaqeb, Consultant ENT Surgeon decided the infant should undergo a bronchoscope operation. A team of three anesthetists attended the operation.

Dr Thaqeb said the kid could not breathe normally as air was locked in her left lung. He added that the kid's heart had also moved a bit from its original position.

He added that the operation was successful and Alfina will soon be discharged.
