Dubai Municipality is providing new facilities at Hatta Library, including a bus service to enable residents in remote areas to use the facilities. Obeid Salim Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General for Administrative and General Services Affairs, said the bus service and a new multi-purpose hall were being provided to support the region's cultural activities.
He said the hall, equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment, will be suitable for cultural, social and educational events. "This initiative is taken by the Ruler for the cultural and social growth of the community in Hatta. We will coordinate with the Ministry of Education and various civil organisations like the Al Nahda Women's Association," Al Shamsi said.
He said these associations and clubs could organise cultural activities at the library hall such as lectures, poetry evenings, children's programmes and other events. The bus service will be available in the morning and evening. There are two buses and the number will be increased depending on public demand, Al Shamsi said.
"We will also add more books and other knowledge materials to the library, especially in the children's section as we attach much concern to the all-round development of the future generation," he said.
"The library will also be linked by the Internet to the Central Library in Al Ras and the other five branch libraries of Dubai Municipality so visitors can use the information materials of these libraries as well." Hatta Library was established in 1998 and received more than 14,500 visitors in 1999 and 18,755 last year.
